Flor Vasilyev

Flor Vasilyev is a famous Udmurt poet.

          He was born on the 15^th of  February in 1934 in a small village of Berdyshi. His father was a country teacher. He also wanted to be a teacher and studied at Glazov teacher training school. Here he tried to write his first poems.

          Vasilyev’s poems are about Udmurt nature, national character of Udmurt people, who he loved very much. Most of his poems were translated from Udmurt into Russian.

          He died in a car crash when he was 44. 

German Korepanov

German Korepanov is a great Udmurt composer.

          He was the first professional composer of Udmurtia. He was born on the 30^th of April in Selty. As a talented child Korepanov began to write short stories and poems when he was at school.

          During the Great Patriotic War Lieutenant Korepanov created his first musical works. They were marches and waltzes. His songs are well-known and loved by all the people in Udmurtia.

          German Korepanov is the author of the national anthem (гимн) of  Udmurtia.

Vasily Vanyushev

Vasily Vanyushev is a well-known Udmurt writer. He is a professor of philology.

He was born on the 10^th of  February in  1936 in a village not far from Kizner.

          The main themes of his works are his love to his homeland, friendship of different nationalities living in Udmurtia.

           He also wrote poems for children. His works were translated into many languages of multinational Russia.

           The writer did a lot for developing of Udmurt culture.

Galina Kulakova

Galina Kulakova is a legendary Russian skier. We can be really proud of our countrywoman.

           She was born on the 29^th of April in 1942 in Stepanovo village not far from Votkinsk. She is from a peasant (крестьянская) family and her childhood was very hard.

           Galina Kulakova is an outstanding sportswoman who’s become “a queen” of skiing. Four times she was an Olympic Champion, nine times – a World Cup Champion.

           Now she lives in Italmas not far from Izhevsk and is 80 years old.

Vyacheslav Mikhailov

          Vyacheslav Mikhailov is an outstanding udmurt landscape artist. He is famous for his pictures that are plain but very natural. Vyacheslav Mikhailov is called "a singer of beauty of Udmurt and Russian Nature". His national pictures have enriched (обогатили) multinational art of Russia.

           Mikhailov's works are in many regional museums, as well as in private collections not only in Russia, but also in Finland, Sweden and China. Besides, he illustrates books of Udmurt writers.  

           Mikhailov was born in 1951 in Piseevo Village not far from Alnashi. He has growned up in the counrty where he could enjoy Udmurt nature and landscape. His life in the counrty and Udmurt country people is the main theme of Mihkailov's works. In 1976 he graduated from Art and Design departament of Udmurt Pedegogical Institute.

            The most popular of his pictures are "A farmer's still life" (1988), "Melodies of Childhood"  (1988), "Native Land" (1984) and others.
